Umoja Sports Group is a community and wellness non-profit initiative dedicated to bringing the joy of soccer to every child and young adult, regardless of their background or circumstances. Their leadership team is driven by their roots as children of refugees and committed to supporting children and underprivileged individuals in order to boost untapped talent within the community.
We began working with Umoja from the ground up, developing a brand, video content, brand video, and used realms to create a central hub for training videos and selling tickets to upcoming events. Below, we’ll go through the process of creating Umoja from beginning to launch and how realms was able to help support their organization.
Building the brand
The name Umoja was selected because it means unity. During the initial planning phase, we knew that we wanted to create a brand that was bold, impactful, and fun, both in weight of the logo and in color scheme.
Creating a brand video
To support the official launch, a brand video was created. We were there every step of the way, helping to direct the video, secure locations, and maintain the voice of the brand.
Gamifying the brand with Rank Up!
A unique part of Umoja is that winners from each tournament will receive unique badges that they can display on their bag to show off their win. As they continue to win, they’ll trade in their badges and rank up, with the badges getting more and more rare as they increase their skills.
Launching the shop and selling merch
We also supported Umoja by developing a shop using Shopify and creating a merch line as we wanted to give people as many options as possible to support their initiative and wanted to build name recognition by having players wear Umoja merch.
Planning the first tournament
After the official launch, we wanted to plan Umoja’s first U12 and Adult division tournament. To do this, we needed:
- A flier to promote the event in person
- A place to promote the event and sell tickets
We worked with the Umoja team to create a flier that could be easily passed around.
We also created a realm so that they would have a dedicated space to post training videos and sell tickets to their tournament.
Social media and ad management
After announcing the tournament, we handled daily social media posting and engagement as well as running Facebook ads to promote their tournament and mission.
Let’s wrap it up
We’ve been honored to help Umoja Sports Group get off the ground and start making an impact in the community. Umoja is ready to make real change and reach all athletes to help them access resources like equipment, travel costs, mentorship, and more, while providing a new community that they can look to for support. We’re excited to continue working with Umoja to support their goals and if you’d like to use Realms.tv for your non-profit, reach out!
